Root canal treatment is a treatment to repair and recover a highly damaged or inflamed tooth. Treatment involves removing, cleaning, disinfecting and refilling the damaged part of the tooth (pulp). This procedure seals off the root canal. Years ago, teeth with diseased or injured pulps were removed. Today, root canal treatment saves many teeth that would otherwise be lost.
Treated and repaired teeth / teeth can be used for a lifetime with proper oral and dental care. Because the treated tooth may develop caries again, oral care and regular dental examinations are necessary to prevent further problems.
